Christianity today has the most followers than any other religion in the world.
Christianity is a religion that started and had an immediate boom of population.
Christianity started when Jesus was sent to Earth and born through the Virgin
Mary. Jesus was the messiah sent for the people of the Earth to save them and
promise them salvation and eternity with God in heaven.
During the Middle Ages, monks who were Catholic took the
religion teachings of Christianity to central and northern Europe. Missionaries
traveled and were teaching Orthodox Christianity to the people in Europe and
Russia.
Christianity was in Asia for a little while when the medieval
missionaries where there, but as soon as they were gone, Christianity soon died
out of Asia.
In the time period of 1500-1750 was a big deal for the Christian
religion, during this time Christianity became the first religion to spread
completely around the world. Missionaries were able to get all the way around
the world and teach the religion of Christianity.
Christianity was mostly in Europe at the time. It was the number
one religion of European people.
Christianity started to spread to Africa. In West Africa, The
Portuguese began to settle in 1400. Catholic Missionaries started to work in the
Portuguese colonies. There was one major mission to the Congo which was
successful for the most part. The mission resulted in African Priests and one
bishop. The Christianity population slowly died out in West African.
In 1652, Cape Town was developed. In the 1700’s the Protestant
missionaries started to preach the word to the people of the area. The
Protestant continues to thrive in the area today.
In Asia Christian missionaries were more active. Catholics were
the first to come to the areas where Portugal and Spain controlled all trade and
colonies. Protestant missionaries were where the Dutch was colonized and
trading.
Catholic missionaries were big in India as well. They settled
there for trade and were and to spread the word through their trading routes.
Catholic missionaries followed Portuguese traders to Japan,
China and Southeast Asia. Francis Xavier reached it to Japan in 1549.
Catholic missionaries spoke the work in
Japan up until the Japanese government ended all contact with
foreigners.
Francis Xavier started missions into the West Indies, because
there were Portuguese colonies there as well. There were many missions into The
Philippines too.
Christianity’s largest expansion was when the colonies in the
Americas began. The settlers all brought Catholicism to the Americas.
The West Indies had slaves there and the missionaries went there
to baptize the slaves. Most people in the area at the time died because of a
disease that was mistreated.

missionaries worked in all the areas the Spanish and Portuguese claimed.
